History

Canada Place Child Care Society (CPCCS) opened its daycare in 1988, the same year that the downtown Edmonton building of Canada Place was constructed. We occupy a large portion of the second floor and have the capacity to care for up to 80 children.

For two decades, CPCCS has been one of the top non-profit daycares in Edmonton. Our long-serving daycare Executive Director, Gillian Richards, brought stability to an industry known for change. Gil was instrumental in modernizing the policies and procedures for accreditation and licensing in Alberta. We pride ourselves on long-term retention of staff and have a group of dedicated parents who volunteer in various ways.

When Gil retired, the Gillian Richards Endowment Fund was created to raise money to give back to children in our community. When Gillian passed away in 2017, she left a legacy and a standard that we now live up to. As time goes on, the Gillian Richards Memorial Fund continues to raise money for children in the Edmonton community.
